About SYNC
Welcome to SYNC, a community-driven initiative designed for families and caregivers of children age 0–7 years old on the Autism Spectrum (or suspected of). Hosted by The Root Social Justice Center in collaboration with Early Education Services, Early Childhood Special Education of Windham Southeast Supervisory Union and Springfield Area Parent Child Center, SYNC provides tailored support to help you navigate the challenges and celebrate the triumphs of raising a child with ASD in Windham County.
What We Offer
Virtual Parent & Caregiver Meet Up
A monthly, neuro-affirming space for parents and caregivers of Autistic people of all ages to connect. This group meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. This group offers:
A supportive environment to share accomplishments and challenges
Peer-to-peer learning and idea exchange
A place to feel understood without judgment
Community-building rooted in cultural humility and care
While this is not a BIPOC affinity space, facilitators intentionally uplift the experiences of BIPOC caregivers and ensure all participants feel welcomed, respected, and centered.
Educational Workshops (hybrid)
These Workshops are provided on the 4th Thursday of the month from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Workshops led by professionals such as:
Speech-language pathologists
Occupational therapists
Autism specialists
Neurodivergent educators and community advocates
Topics may include:
What Autism is and common misconceptions
Understanding sensory needs
What an AAC device is and how to use it at home
Communication, regulation, and daily living supports
Childcare is provided for children ages 0–7 during in-person sessions to make workshops accessible for all caregivers.
Parent Advocate
Navigating services and resources for young Autistic children can be overwhelming. Our Parent Advocate provides personalized support to families, helping them access the services they need and advocate for their child's best interests. This position provides:
Resource navigation
Support with early childhood services and evaluations
Guidance on advocating within educational systems
Culturally responsive, trauma-informed care
A relational anchor for families who may be navigating Autism-related systems for the first time
The Parent Advocate works closely with the SYNC program and the broader Root community to ensure families feel empowered and informed. For more information contact Parent Advocate Rebecca Baiser at rebecca.baiser@therootsjc.org
Monthly Respite Care (coming soon)
Families may access four hours of respite care each month for children ages 0–7. This service is provided on the 1st Saturday of the month from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. During this time, caregivers are encouraged to:
Rest
Run errands
Take personal time
Engage in community wellness activities
Children are cared for in a sensory-aware, warm environment by staff trained in neuro-affirming practices, ensuring safety, dignity, and joy.

Why Join SYNC?
SYNC is more than a support program—it's a community. Whether you're facing daily challenges or celebrating small victories, SYNC is here to provide support and resources. The program is inspired by stories like that of Mateo, a young boy whose journey with ASD has shaped the heart of SYNC. Like Mateo, every child has a unique path, and at SYNC, we embrace these differences with open arms.
Be Part of Our Community
We understand the isolation that can come with navigating ASD and the power of a supportive community. By joining SYNC, you’ll find not just resources but also a network of support, understanding, and advocacy. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for our children.
How to Get Involved
