For 12 years, The Root has been a home, a hub, and a movement space centering Blackness, uplifting BIPOC voices, and cultivating joy. Together with you, we have built these spaces through years of organizing, relationship-building, and showing up for each other, creating a network of support that has made real impact possible in Brattleboro, across Vermont and beyond.

But we are also facing unprecedented threats: from dismantling DEI initiatives, to erasing trans rights, to rewriting history itself. Across the country, the very communities we serve — Black, Brown, immigrant, queer, trans, disabled, low-income — are under direct attack. These aren’t just setbacks. They are attempts to erase hard-fought progress and silence lived experience.

And still, we persist. We resist. We stand in our power. ✊🏽

That’s why this year’s 12th Anniversary Celebration is more than a party—it’s a call to action. Our goal: raise $12,000 in September to ensure our work endures and our communities continue to thrive.
