We can’t wait to see you at the Hair Clinic! To help make the day run smoothly and create the best experience for everyone, please keep in mind that available hairstyles vary by stylist and appointment length and are listed with each appointment slot. Appointments cannot be extended, so your stylist will complete the best style possible within your scheduled time.
Before your appointment
Please arrive with hair washed, detangled, and ready to style so we can make the most of your appointment. Time spent preparing hair will reduce the time available for styling. Here are some tips for prepping your hair:
💆🏾 Wash and condition
🤏🏾 Work in small sections
💦 Add lots of moisture
🪮 Use your fingers and a wide-tooth comb
🫰🏾 Start at the ends and work your way up
❌ Don’t detangle dry
💧 Keep a spray bottle handy
⏰ Give yourself time

The care you and your hair deserve
Your hair deserves care from people who understand it—and you deserve access to skilled hair care that celebrates and supports you.
In Vermont, accessing stylists with experience caring for textured hair can be difficult, especially outside of larger population centers. The Root works to help close that gap through the BIPOC Hair Shop, which connects BIPOC folks with textured hair to skilled local stylists, and our BIPOC Hair Clinics, which offer free professional hair services for BIPOC folks with textured hair at special clinic events.
BIPOC Hair Shop
Connect with a stylist who specializes in textured hair!
The BIPOC Hair Shop helps connect BIPOC folks with textured hair to local stylists who specialize in textured hair.
Participating stylists provide services in a variety of settings, including salons, home studios, clients’ homes, and at The Root. The Root is available to participating stylists and their clients on the last Saturday of each month. Browse our current stylist list to learn more about participating stylists and connect with them directly about services, availability, and pricing.
Contact BTN@therootsjc.org if you have questions or would like more information!
The BIPOC Hair Shop is not a free service. Each stylist sets their own prices and handles scheduling and payment directly with clients. The Root does not set prices or participate in transactions between clients and stylists.
